We use an electric pressure cooker (INSTANT POT) for cooking dog food. 

brown rice - 10 minute - 10 natural release

dried beans - bring to a 1-minute boil then 15 minutes cook - natural release - blend with liquid (water or broth or bone soup) or SOAK overnight then cook.

sweet potatoes- cut into 1/4" slices - 15 minutes cook - natural release.

a fry pan for cooking ground turkey or hamburger or scrambled eggs.

use a brownie pan for cooking scrambled eggs with minced vegetables.

FreshPet is a refrigerated dog food, 

you can purchase at Target, Cub, Walmart, etc. 

I purchase the FreshPet in 5-6# tube, cut it into meal size pieces. 

(example 1/4# for a 10# dog), 

freeze it and then thaw it in the refrig as I need it.

She prefers to use Young Living essential oils in her practice.

I have found that essential oils are as effective as many chemicals in treating my dogs and maintaining their wellbeing. 

Many of the tips I’ll share I’ve learned from Dr. Brandt recommends that most essential oils be diluted with a base or carrier oil before applying to your pet.

For dogs, she recommends 1-drop essential oil to 10 drops base/carrier oil. For cats,

rabbits and ferrets, 1-drop essential oil to 25 drops of base/carrier oil.

The best base or carrier oil is organic fractionated coconut oil, cold pressed olive oil, or grapeseed oil. Coconut oil spoils the slowest of the carrier oils. Avoid nut oils if your pet is allergic to nuts. Dr. Brandt recommends using V-6 enhanced vegetable oil complex by Young Living as base/carrier oil. The ingredients of V-6: Fractionated Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, and Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil.

Oil and water do not mix; water can cause the oil to irritate your pet’s skin more. If you pet has sensitivity to any essential oil, dilute the oil with base/carrier oil or simply add more base/carrier oil to the location. If any essential oil gets into your pet’s eyes rinse with base/carrier oil, never use water.

Dr. Brandt uses Young Living essential oils because they are therapeutic grade and

processed correctly. They are organic and do not contain toxins, like pesticides. Young Living essential oils are one of the few essential oils that can be taken safety internally. Young Living and Doterra Products are human and pet safe.

Young Living controls the process from start to finish. There are 42 species of

frankincense but Young Living chooses the 2 species with the most therapeutic benefits. The oils are processed with low heat by steamed distillation or cold pressing which make more of the natural properties available. Other brands process the essential oils faster using cheaper methods. As a result, their essential oils do not have all theproperties of Young Living products or Doterra and may contain toxins.

Essential oils are able to produce the desired result quicker than herbs. A drop of

peppermint essential oil is equal to 26 cups of peppermint tea. Essential oils have

multi-effects where many drugs have usually one medical property plus side effects.

Dr. Brandt gave a lecture on 1/29/2009 addressing 16 Young Living essential oils that a pet owner should have on hand. She strongly suggests not applying essential oils to paws since pets lick them and this could cause possible irritation as saliva is similar to water. She also is concerned that pets do not wear shoes, which drives the oils and other compounds into their body if they step on them,

Examples: fertilizer, antifreeze and other toxins could be absorbed more quickly when the EO is applied on their paws.

Balsam fir (Idaho) is the first essential oil Dr. Brandt recommends. It is anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant (stops blood from clotting) and acts like cortisone. It is used for respiratory issues and pain. For breathing issues, rub on the chest. For pain issues, rub on the source.

Eucalyptus Radiata can be used as a smelling salt and aids in opening up the lungs when an upper respiratory infection is present. Its medical properties are antibacterial, antiviral, expectorant and anti-inflammatory. As a smelling salt, the bottle is held briefly under the nose. For breathing issues, rub on the chest.

Frankincense can cross the blood/brain barrier and aids in increasing oxygen to the

brain. Frankincense is used for infections and tumors, dissolves lumps & bumps.

Frankincense is antibacterial, antiviral, expectorant and anti-inflammatory. It can be

applied topically, diffused, or simply inhaled.

Helichrysum is great for bruising or bleeding. Dr. Brandt would choose Helichysum if rat poison is suspected. This will help control internal bleeding. This essential oil is not diluted but rubbed directly on the bare belly, be sure to avoid the sexual organs.

She applies 1 drop per 1 inch of bare belly up the center of the pet’s belly. Helichrysum is able to figure out what job it needs to do by responding to the body’s needs. One of its properties is a blood thinner but when it is used for detoxifying rat poison, it cleans the blood instead of making it thinner. Helichrysum medical properties are anticoagulant, anesthetic, antispasmodic, antiviral,

liver detoxifier, chelates chemicals and toxins and regenerates nerves.

Lavender is the universal essential oil and can be used for just about anything. This

essential oil is applied neat (not diluted). Lavender is great to heal burns including

sunburns. Lavender has great calming effects and can be misted into the air.

Recipe: add 2 drops to 1 oz. of steamed distilled water put into a spray bottle, shake

before each use. Its medical properties are antiseptic, antifungal, antitumoral,

anticonvulsant, vasodilating, relaxant, anti-inflammatory, reduce blood fat/cholesterol, andcombats excess sebum on skin. Sebum is an oily substance secreted by the sebaceousglands that helps prevent hair and skin from drying out.

I use lavender to clear tear staining on my dogs. I like to use it at night since lavender has calming properties. Apply one drop or less to your finger and put it across the bridge of the nose avoiding the eyes...where the tear stain is.

Peppermint is wonderful for treating diarrhea and vomiting. Rub on the bare belly or the gums. Be sure to dilute with the base/carrier oil formula. Avoid eye contact. Medical properties are anti-inflammatory, antitumoral, antiparasitic (worms), antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, gallbladder/digestive stimulant, pain-reliever and curbs appetite.

Pine works for respiratory issues and works even better when mixed with eucalyptus. Rub on the chest between the front legs. Pine’s medical properties are hormone-like, antidiabetic, cortisone-like, antiseptic and lymphatic stimulant.

There are 9 essential oil blends created by Young Living, which Dr. Brandt recommends. The blends are a combination of several essential oils having a broad spectrum of beneficial medical properties.

Di-Gize helps with alleviating diarrhea and vomiting. It works better than peppermint. She applies the oil to the bare belly and rubs it in a clockwise motion, the direction the colon moves in. Di-Gize detoxes anesthesia (surgery).

Egyptian Gold aids the immune system and is used for open wounds (dog/cat fight). It is applied to the chest and between the shoulder blades on the back.

Joy helps the heart and circulatory system. Apply to the chest and side of the ribs.

GLF should be used if your pet gets into anything toxic like fertilizer or Advid. Rub on the liver. The liver is located just below the ribs on the right-hand side.

Melrose is great for chronic infections like abscesses (wounds).

Panaway is her “go to oil” for dog bites, bruising, cuts and scrapes.

Purification is used undiluted on bug bites. It purifies the air and kills the virus, Parvo. It balances electro energies. She uses it on her patients bedding as a diffuser.

Mix 1 drop to 1 oz steam distilled water into a spray bottle. Shake before use and spray the room, bedding, and toys, anything your pet touches to disinfect.

OnGuard kills bacteria and can be used as an antibiotic.

OnGuard should be used for keeping your pet’s teeth clean.

OnGuard should not be used on cats due to sensitivity to their liver.

Valor is chiropractic in a bottle. It aliens the body by balancing energy centers (chakras). Apply to the spine.

Purification is blend of essential oils made by Young Living and is wonderful for cleaning dog’s ears. Purity is the Doterra brand.

Put a drop of purification on the palm of your hand, rub the end of a Q-tip in the drop then clean your dog’s ear. Repeat the process with afresh end of a Q-tip for the other ear. Repeat daily until the Q-tip is free of debris. It kills ear mites instantly.

NEVER pour essential oils into the ear.

Dr. Melissa Shelton, DVM has preformed tests and she witnessed the ear mites dying when she applied purification on the microscope slide. Purification diffused or sprayed on their bedding kills pests, disinfects and keeps yourhome free of critters without using harmful chemicals.

RECIPE: dash of sea salt mixed with 3 drops of purification to each oz of

water instead of Frontline or OFF to repel bugs. Mist your dog's bed, toys to stop odors and prevent egg hatching of pests.

On Guard essential oil is excellent for helping to prevent tooth decay.

In a 4-ounce glass spray bottle, I mix pinch of salt, 2 drops on guard to 1 ounce of steamed distilled water. I use the solution nightly to spray on my dog’s upper gums and teeth. Lift the upper lip on each side of your dog’s mouth and spray the solution on the teeth. On Guard kills the bacteria that cause the tooth decay.

On Guard makes your dog’s immune system stronger, it is a natural antibiotic.

Antibiotics made from drugs kill both the bad and the good bacteria. You will need to build back up the good bacteria with probiotics like yogurt or kefir, if you use man-made antibiotics. The on guard solution is a cheaper, easier, healthier method of daily brushing their teeth or bringing your dog in to the vet for the recommended 6-month teeth cleaning.

On Guard essential oil (teeth & antibiotic) is different from On Guard Cleaner (to

clean kennel).

One more outstanding product is Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner or Doterra On guard cleaner. I have been using it to clean my kennels. Mix 30 oz. water to 1 oz. thieves household cleaner in a spray bottle and spray on the kennel. It kills the germs, bacteria and is safe for dogs even if they lick their paws. I do not need to remove their water or food, thieves is a natural product that is safe to ingest. I do not need to rinse or let it air dry. It does not burn my lungs or irritate my skin like bleach does. I remove the dog while spraying the solution;

it has cinnamon and can be irritating to their eyes while the mist settles which only takes seconds. I use it to clean my hard wood floors when a potty accident needs to becleaned.

Lavender is a natural solution for tear staining. Once a day, put a drop or less in the palm of your hand then use your index finger to apply the drop by rubbing your finger across the upper bridge of your dog’s nose right below its eyes, where the tear stains are. Lavender unblocks the eye ducts and kills the bacteria caused by the tearing.

I had a couple of dogs with eye injuries from hunting, interacting with other pets or other issues. Dr. Melissa Shelton, DVM told me about a dog that was a last chance candidate with an eye issue.

She used lavender mixed with a packet of sodium chloride/sodium bicarbonate usp grade, water and was having success resolving the eye issue. I mixed a solution of 8 drops lavender a packet of sodium chloride/sodium bicarbonate usp grade to 8 ounce steamed distilled water.

The packet is ½ of a teaspoon. Sodium chloride/sodium bicarbonate usp grade can be purchased at Walgreen’s or online; it is used for the neti pot sinus rinse. It is an emulsifier and keeps the solution from separating since oil and water do not mix. The solution must be shaken each time before use if you do not use an emulsifier.

The mix is similar to eyewash solutions used for humans. Put the mixture in a glass spray bottle. Spray the solution 2-3 times in the effected eye each day and watch the healing begin.

Curly, our English Springer’s eye was extremely large from a hunting accident that

occurred in 2006 at the age of 8 years old. The eye was getting larger and looked like it was about to burst. I was sure he would need surgery and might lose his eye. I started using the solution, his eye returned close to normal size and the cataract appears smaller. That is amazing.

Di-Gize or Disgest essential oil resolves diarrhea & worms naturally

put 1 drop on the belly & rub in a clockwise 3 times.  Kills coccidia & giardia. Detoxes anesthesia (surgery)

Lemon essential oil 

Use 1 teaspoon sea salt,

add 2 drop lemon essential oil to one gallon of water.

Important to use if you decide to use tap or well water!

Keeps bacteria from growing in water dish.

Kills Meningococcus, Diphtheria, Typhoid Bacilli,

Staphylococcus Aureus & Pneumococcus bacteria. Inactivates Tuberculosis.

Start educating yourself by reading labels then looking up ingredients on your computer, in the browser search bar.

I use Bar Soap (dove or ivory) for bathing my animals. It does not have any cancer

causing ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate found in most shampoos. It can be used as needed and not only once every 30 days as stated on most pet shampoos.

Then mist with purification or purity mixture...add 3 drops to sea salt to every ounce

of water.
